Acting upon a request from local school superintendents, the North Carolina Association of School Administrators (NCASA) and the North Carolina School Public Relations Association (NCSPRA) began working together in January 2014 to launch a concerted effort to increase support for the district-led public schools that got their start 175 years ago. The groups determined that building increased support for public schools is imperative not only for the ongoing viability of those schools but also for the state as a whole.
NCASA and NCSPRA concluded that a positive public messaging campaign that highlights the important role that public schools play in North Carolina communities and in the lives of the state’s young people needs to resonate statewide. In March 2014, the groups unveiled the “Every Child’s Chance … Every Community’s Future” initiative with a logo emphasizing a young plant being nurtured by the sun – symbolic of North Carolina public schools’ own efforts to grow future-ready graduates and strong communities.
The collaboration continued throughout 2014. When this website was launched, more than 45 statewide and local organizations/public entities signed on to support the initiative, and district school leaders began accessing positive messaging resources for use in building support at the local level. NCASA and NCSPRA also launched efforts to plan a major event for March 19, 2015 to celebrate 175 years of public school success in North Carolina.
The anniversary celebration that followed served as the official kick off to our unified effort to connect school leaders with parents, business leaders, government officials and others in their local communities to spread the message that North Carolina public schools are indeed “Every Child’s Chance and Every Community’s Future."
